End of prelude! Coming up: Chapter 1 of the main story!
Hey Funny Animal fans! News galore.
I spent this corporate-endorsed non-holiday back in Savannah with my main squeeze Miles. It is his birthday today! It was so lovely taking pulls of Wild Turkey with all of my cartoonist friends and fading off into sleep in the arms of my man. I’m so pleased and happy. Atlanta was hit hard by that odd burst of deep-south snow, the kind we rarely see, and the entire metropolitan area was all sixes and sevens for the weekend, so it was nice to get out, though the snow on the trees was breathtaking.
In business news, my interview with Eleanor Davis and the other creators of the Secret Science Alliance is finally up on the Comics Journal. It’s my first professional interview with a group of cartoonists I seriously idolize, so please be kind in your consideration.
I hope all is well, dear readers. I’ve been negotiating my lifestyle choices for the last couple of weeks
and the comic has been a little spotty. No more! I’ve taken on a job at a bank and while the money is
steady and the benefits are more than I ever thought I would have at 22 (health insurance: wow!) it leaves me
little time to do what I love, which is to draw and read comics and be among my people; those who like to draw
and read and talk about comics. I’m anxious for the time when my art can provide the kind of financial
stability I need in order to draw with impunity.
My friend Brooke’s graphic novel is finally being released by NBM! She’s an incredible
talent, friend and animal lover. She and her boyfriend were among the earliest patrons
of GO YE DOGS. I have the utmost confidence that this book will be zany and fabulous.
Speaking of boyfriends, I am back together with mine. I’m actually a great cynic of love
and romance, but this one’s really special and I can’t quite keep him off my mind. It’s a great
comfort that someone as smart and put-together wants anything to do with me. Life is swell.

News today! My friend Hunter’s book debuts today!
It is published by Oni Press and is available some places where books are sold.
I’m putting on some pants and going out to get my copy right now!
Hey you guys. I’m drawing as fast as I can but there may have to be a break from the strip for today, this Friday. I have to get an H1N1 vaccine and rush off early to work. Check back tomorrow, please. I may be able to play catch-up. There will positively be an update this coming Monday. I have all of next week off so I’ll be spending it getting my buffer back up to health, working on my commissions and illustrating a short series for a gallery show of which you (the reader) will be privy to an exclusive sneak peak.

Here’s a past commission to tide y’all over. Thanks everyone for your patience!
Today’s strip will be a bit late. I’m recovering from a rough batch of triple and quadruple shifts at work. Expect an update maybe in the evening US Eastern Standard Time.
In the meantime I’ll advise you to amuse yourself with the new storyline on Octopus Pie. It tickles my music-nerd funnybone a great deal with a reference to the Shaggs, which I refer to as the first example of rock music as psychological torture. It takes a very disgusting and sad story and bounces off of it to make a bittersweet reflection on family. This is my favorite ongoing comic story on the web.
Here’s a little monster I drew in my
sketchbook last winter to tide you over.
